The Eindhoven Marathon is an annual event that attracts many participants each year. Located in the heart of Eindhoven, the marathon brings out the best in the city with live music and locals lending their support to runners. Before 1990, the event was biennial for eight years. Today, the marathon is held every October and covers 42.195km.
Before the big event, the city hosts Marathon Expo Eindhoven. This event attracts a variety of exhibitors, fun activities and so much more. It’s the ideal event for those who lead an active lifestyle and love sports.
Admission to the expo is free and takes place over two days, Friday and Saturday. At the expo, visitors can learn more about other marathons in Europe and shop for the latest running shoes, clothing and accessories at the local market. Food and live entertainment from local sport and dance schools are major highlights of this event. Runners who are participating in the marathon can pick up their start number during the Expo.
In addition the many festivities taking place in town, the Marathon Festival takes place on the Sunday of the marathon. This major event features music and entertainment, including more than 50 live bands, DJ’s and orchestras. These musicians are located at regular intervals throughout the marathon’s course. Their goal is to motivate and support both the runners and the spectators.
Both the Marathon Foundation and the Inloophuis De Eik gain support from the Eindhoven Marathon. Inloophuis De Eik is a meeting place for those who are dealing with cancer. This includes not only the patient, but their loved ones and friends as well. Many creative and sporting events are also held by the charity, which aims to provide support for those who are struggling with the disease.
The Marathon Foundation was established after Toon de Wit passed away. He was a prominent figure in Eindhoven and the marathon commemorates his life each year.
