Euromast Rotterdam – Scale new heights

The Euromast is one of the tallest tower structures in Rotterdam which is open to the public. Constructed between 1958 and 1960 to celebrate an important Dutch flower festival, it has now become one of the city’s most famous landmarks. With an observation platform situated at roughly 96metres above the ground, it is one of the best places to visit if you want a bird’s eye view of Rotterdam. Covering a few floors, the main observation area of the tower includes a conference area, two hotel suite rooms, a Brasserie restaurant and a gift shop.

Euromast 2For those who do not think that 100 meters is high enough, it is possible to take the Euroscope rotating elevator right to the top of the Euromast. The special elevator means that it is possible to take in 360 degree views of the city as you ascend and descend. Although the elevator travels at a very gentle speed, the trip up and down does not take long, so it Is even possible to make the trip whilst in between courses in your dinner at the Brasserie restaurant.

Those who are feeling a little bit more adventurous may want to try their hand at one of the more extreme activities which are on offer. The tower is home to the highest abseiling point in Europe, as well as the fastest zip wire in Europe. For €52.50 per person (which includes entry to the Euromast), participants can make a controlled descent down a rope from the main observation platform to the ground. Abseiling is available every weekend during May to September, except for the last Sunday of every month. The zip line (flying fox) allows users to travel at up to 100km down a sloped line, which is suspended between the tower and a fixed point on the ground. The cost of the zip wire is also €52.50 per person, which is payable at the reception desk, prior to entry. The zip wire is only operational on the last Sunday of every month from May to September. Check for availability online.
