Fans of the famous Heineken beer can get a first-hand look at the brewing process at the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam. This historic brewery was built in 1867 and was the company’s main brewing facility until 1988. The brewery opened its doors to the public in 1991 and allowed visitors to tour the building. At the time, it was known as “Heineken Treat and Information Centre.” Over time, the attraction grew to become one of the most popular tourist spots in Amsterdam. In 2001, the attraction’s name was changed to “Heineken Experience.”
What to Expect
Visitors are taken on a journey through the history of Heineken beer and the Heineken family. Iconic commercials from the beer’s history are also played to take guests on a trip down memory lane. Guests even have the chance to create their own music video. In the new multimedia exhibit, visitors actually become a beer where they are shaken up, heated up and even sprayed with water. Once you have made your way through the Heineken Experience, you will be rewarded with a few cold ones. It is important to note that the Heineken Experience will not serve beer to any visitors under the age of 16 as this is against the company’s policy and also against Dutch law.
The Heineken Experience is located at Stadhouderskade 78, 1072 AE. The attraction is easily accessible via car, train or boat.
When visiting the Heineken Experience, expect to spend approximately an hour and a half inside. The tour is self-guided so visitors can move at their own pace.
